Asheville Cat Weirdos Emergency Fund

Asheville Cat Weirdos is an Asheville, North Carolina-based organization that got its start in 2016 as a social media interest group for cat Moms and Dads and cat lovers throughout Western North Carolina. The group grew quickly, and as it did members realized they wanted to do more for the community. The Asheville Cat Weirdos Emergency Fund was launched in 2018 as a donation-based resource for cat parents in the area that need financial assistance with unforeseen and emergency vet bills and care. The group also facilitates a donation-based food pantry to help cat parents who may need emergency assistance feeding their fur kids.

Beginning in 2021, customers of TwoPeas Postcards LLC who support ACW can have 20% of their sales proceeds donated to the Emergency Fund if they mention ACW at the time of their purchase.

Asheville Humane Society

In addition to its regular shelter operations, the Asheville Humane Society also operates a thrift store in Asheville, the proceeds from which fully support its shelter animals.

Merchandise from TwoPeas Postcards will be for sale at the Asheville Humane Society’s thrift store beginning in February 2021. As with all merchandise sold at the thrift store, 100% of proceeds from TwoPeas merchandise purchased there will be donated to benefit the shelter animals.

BeLoved Asheville

BeLoved Asheville is an Asheville-area non-profit organization that advocates for, mobilizes on behalf of, and provides support for our community’s homeless and underserved populations. It provides food access and free farmer’s markets, a street medic team, and programs focused on racial education and healing. Over the last year BeLoved Asheville has been instrumental in providing COVID-19 emergency response.

In 2021, the BeLoved Village is a key initiative for providing access to affordable, sustainable, and community-oriented micro homes for underserved poulations that are disproportionately impacted by Asheville’s housing crisis.

TwoPeas Postcards is proud to offer fundraising support to BeLoved Asheville, our feature organization in March 2021.

Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary

The Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary is an Iowa-based non-profit dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of last chance Corgis. The dogs that come to Corgwyn have varying degrees of behavioral, training, and medical issues that necessitate intervention before they are ready for adoption. The Corgwyn team, led by its founder, Brett Butler, devotes the time and resources needed to rehabilitate these pups and will either find them adoptive homes or provide them a forever home at the Sanctuary.

I became familiar with Corgwyn through my work with the Southeast Corgi Rescue (see below) and hosted an art fundraiser for the sanctuary in 2020 with the hope of providing more of the funds the team needs for dog care and facility maintenance.

If you’re in the Asheville area and thinking about getting involved with an organization that needs help, this one is always looking for volunteers and fosters! Help them save lives. You’ll be glad you did!

Southeast Corgi Rescue (SECR)

The Southeast Corgi Rescue is another stand-out rescue organization that will forever be close to my heart. This non-profit rescue is a completely volunteer-run, foster-based rescue for Corgis and Corgi mixes with which my husband and I have been involved with over the last year as volunteers, fosters, and now, adopters. I’m also happy to work on the SECR team as a social media and website administrator, helping to provide supporters across the Carolinas and Georgia with important information they need to get involved, foster, and adopt. The volunteers and fosters involved in this organization are second to none, as is our little Corgi girl, Margot (right), who we fostered for and then adopted from SECR in 2019. Margot and Banjo also bonded quickly and became like two peas in a pod, inspiring the name - and theme - of my artwork.

Our family grew a little more thanks to SECR in 2022, when we welcomed our foster-turned-adoptee, Farley. When Farley joined us, Two Peas transformed into what we now affectionately call Two-turned-three Peas.

I am proud to be part of the SECR family and will always do what I can to support the organization. I am happy to regularly donate a portion of my proceeds to this rescue.

Surfers for Strays is a San Diego-based animal rescue that focuses primarily on reducing the number of stray animals in Mexico through spay and neuter, education, and foster and adoption programs. The organization was launched in 2017 by two women, Isabel Velasco and Natalie Ritenour, who rescued seven puppies and their mother in Guerrero, Mexico. They realized the area’s need for help taking care of animals and education about the importance of pet sterilization and created Surfers for Strays to do just that. The organizaation now has a rescue center in Troncones, Guerrero, Mexico, partners with a center in Zihuatanejo, and has a transport, foster, and adoption program elsewhere throughout Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Surfers for Strays became a featured animal rescue receiving support from TwoPeas Postcards in February 2021.
